Sunday last saw Virginia Golf Club Captain Vivian Connell host his Prize Day, the big “Major” of the year. After a difficult year for the game and an extended closure in the early part of the year, Virginia Golf Club has had an excellent year under the stewardship of Vivian, Lady Captain Angela and their teams of committees, all of which was evident in the great turnout and support from those playing and supporting the event over the past two weekends. Day 1 produced a number of excellent scores with little between the competitors as was proven in a very tight finish, Seamus Sheridan prevailed in the end to claim his 2nd Captain’s Prize, a deserving and very popular winner. Seamus had a close run at the President’s Prize last month but went one step further this time with an outstanding Day 2 score of Nett 59 and an aggregate of 124 to edge the evergreen Tom Lynch, Day 1 leader, on countback.
